Who Am I?

First, thank you for visiting my site. Please see here for what and why I write.

As for the who and where, I’m an American living in Japan. My family and I have lived in the historic beach community of Kamakura for the better part of a decade. Before Japan, I spent a lot of time in Italy: Tuscany, Sicily, and Rome. (My Italian is good, but my Japanese is still “not so great,” according to my wife and kids.)

I mention my past and current spatial coordinates only as a way of highlighting the humility and flexibility I’ve had to learn in order to survive. It’s no vacation being a foreigner, no matter how well you learn the lingo, or how many years pass. On some level it’s always a struggle, but that’s the stuff from which (I hope) good stories are born. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or feedback.
